Hey! I’m Kate, just your run of the mill C.H.U.D. (Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller) and all around fan of music that kicks ass! I’ll be posting music reviews live from the C.H.U.D. cave. If you like metal, melee, and music, we might get along.
Lucid Fly is a three part, female led, progressive rock band, that puts in mind bands like TesseracT. This trio started in Florida, but has since moved to California. It all started as a duo, with vocalist Nikki Layne and guitarist Doug Mecca. The two built a large fan base in the Southeast and Midwest by sucking it up and touring clubs throughout the regions, like some bad ass rockers paying their dues. It wasn’t until the move to L.A. that the band become the C.H.U.D. friendly rockers you hear today. Recently, Lucid Fly released their self produced album “Building Castles In Air”
“Building Castles In Air“ is an album that’s hard to believe is self produced. The level of talent and craftsmanship is overwhelmingly professional. Everything from front woman Nikki Layne’s haunting yet achingly beautiful voice, to a instrumentals that stand on their own merit. As far as I’m concerned, even the song order was put together perfectly. It paces the listener. Lyrically and musically, you can just tell all involved put their hearts and souls into this album. Sometimes, not often, you can feel what was going on in their mind of the songwriter at the moment of creation. Those moments are all over the album. Building Castles In Air made me want to venture out of the C.H.U.D. Cave and find more of Lucid Fly’s music. Overall, just a solid hard rocking album.
