C.H.U.D. Cave Music Reviews: Neon Coven – Risen

music reviews

Hey! I’m Kate, just your run of the mill C.H.U.D. (Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller) and all around fan of music that kicks ass! I’ll be posting music reviews live from the C.H.U.D. cave. If you like metal, melee, and music, we might get along.

Neon Coven is a 4 part electric rock band from Los Angeles. Risen is their first EP. Lyrically, they write about love, loss, life, and death. These are all themes that we have all experienced at some point. The band is currently signed with New Ocean Media.

In many ways Neon Coven reminds me of bands like Orgy, with heavy synth rhythms and even heavier handed lyrics. Much like when listening to Orgy, I couldn’t always tell when one song ended and another began. The EP was only 4 songs, and I found myself thinking, “Wow! This is one really long song.” It’s like an orgy full of ugly people, still fun but not really living up to the hype.

Don’t get me wrong, think hardcore fans of the genre will like Risen, but I think an album should have a little difference and progression between songs. On the plus side, I did like the lyrics, but as simple and easy to relate to as they were, they weren’t enough to make a fan out of me. Hey, that’s just one C.H.U.D.’s opinion. I’ve heard worst albums, but I’m not willing to give this EP, or band, a second listen. This one will get handed off to my 14 year old.

Be sure to visit them on their social media pages

And give a listen on soundcloud

Now get out of here, before you become my next meal.
