OK, this is getting a little ridiculous. It rained here in California for four days straight. Then it let up for a few days, and then rained again. I’m just a little bit soggy. Maybe, just maybe, if I write another newsletter the rain will let up . . . . . (No such luck, it’s raining again!)
So, here we go. What’s been going on?
Well, we got back from Tennessee in time for me to work a couple of days, and then we went to a fabulous New Year’s Eve Party. We were joined there by Rachel Greenbush (Carrie Ingalls) and Hersha Parady (Mrs. Garvey). Many thanks to our gracious hosts for the best ever party, plenty of food, drinks, old friends, new friends, actual musicians playing an actual piano, low key and high energy at the same time. Welcome, 2017!!
Then we put Alison on a plane for her first ever shows in Mexico, at the Red Room at Act II Entertainment Stages. Act II Entertainment. To say she had a good time would be an understatement! She, along with her intrepid traveling companion, Secret Agent Sock Monkey, spent 3 weeks in Mexico, did 8 shows, partied with all of the other performers, hung out on the beach, and generally tore the place up! She went for a lavish birthday dinner at Casa Kimberly , in a home that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. Then, for her last couple of days, she stayed at Casa Karma , where she had a wonderful time. (Hmm, Casa Karma. Or as I thought to myself, maybe some people shouldn’t stay there!)
So, now for the inevitable schedule!
First, on Sunday, February 12th, Alison and Tour Guide Extraordinaire Richard Sebastian present another episode or the Nasty Nellie Oleson Tour of Hollywood! Check it out here: Nellie Tour Site It’s a 3-hour tour (No SS Minnow in sight, I promise!), tickets are $85 on the website, and are going fast. Now, this is the infamous St. Valentine’s Day edition of the Tour, and who knows what could happen?? I hear that everyone always has a good time, but I wouldn’t know. I can’t take the tour!! But Secret Agent Sock Monkey always goes, and he reports back every time. I hear rumors of milkshakes . . . (Chocolate?? Could there be chocolate??)
Then, on February 14th, otherwise known as St. Valentine’s day, a new web series will begin. “Life Interrupted”, starring Mason Reese, Alison, Erin Murphy, Dawn Wells, and many others. From their website: “Former child actor Mason Bell, (Mason Reese) whose career peaked at the age of 10 is turning fifty and nothing has turned out quite the way he expected. He lives in New York’s East Village in a rundown studio apartment over the equally run down bar he co-owns with his ex-wife, Ally (Alison Arngrim). Ally left Mason years ago to marry gallery owner Nina Woodworth (Erin Murphy). Adding to the fun is Mason’s former mother-in-law, and landlady Annie Hughes (Dawn Wells), Nina’s mother Marnie (Michael Learned), Mason’s best friend Oliver the globe-trotting rocker (Robbie Rist), a wise-cracking bar maid (Lindsay Heston), a studly dishwasher (Luis Lopez), Mason and Ally’s son, Junior (Robbie Allen) and a bar full of colorful friends. The seven episode series premieres Valentine’s Day 2/14/17 with a new episode added weekly.” Check out their promo here: (Life Interrupted) and a recent feature on Alison: (Meet Ally Hughes) I’m going to watch it! (“Me too!”, says Sock Monkey!) If you want to see it, go to YouTube and subscribe to their channel. (Life Interrupted Channel ) It’s free.
On February 25th, Alison (and Loose Gravel Productions) will be kicking off a totally brand new, exciting event: The Indomitable Spirit Symposium. From the website: “The Indomitable Spirit Symposium brings together speakers from all walks of life who have lived through and triumphed over adversity, who have risen above the challenges in their lives and have gone on to inspire others to do the same.” It’s going to be a whole round up of powerful speakers, sharing hope and inspiration for everybody! Alison is one of the speakers, (along with Michael Learned of the Waltons!!). We’re doing this in association with A Peterson Production, with our good friend Carolyn Peterson. Next up, March 23rd through 26th, Alison returns to the stage in Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None”, at the Judson Theatre in Pinehurst, North Carolina. From Their Website: “AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is a classic British murder mystery set in the late 1930s that begins with ten guilty strangers being trapped in a mansion on Soldier Island off the coast of Devon. Upon arrival it is discovered that their host, an eccentric millionaire, is missing. A recorded message is played accusing each of them in turn of having gotten away with murder, and one by one the guests begin to die at the hands of a diabolical avenger via means foreshadowed by a nursery rhyme above the mantel telling how each of ten soldier boys met his death…and then there were none. Stranded on the island by a torrential storm and haunted by the ancient nursery rhyme, with only the fallen believed to be innocent, which of them is the killer?” Alison plays Miss Emily Brent, and tickets are $38 in advance, $43 at the door, with discounts for students and military personnel. The Saga of Sock Monkey (Chapter Fifty-One)
Well, Sock Monkey sure had a lot to ponder on this trip! (Sock Monkeys like to ponder, you know!) Alison was busily typing away in her seat beside him. Sock Monkey slowly sipped his champagne and thought to himself, “Agent J is sure a good person to know!” Alison had not been forthcoming with very many details, but he was sure that it was Agent J that had gotten him out of his situation at the airport. He would have to thank him someday. And who were those guys, anyway? Homeland Security? He certainly hoped not! They more closely resembled the Marx Brothers or the Three Stooges, than any serious security force! Wait a minute, Alison’s talking to someone, a man in uniform. “Madame, would you and your companion please follow me?” Oh no, thought Sock Monkey, not ‘Come with us’ again!! Alison got up and motioned for him to follow. “Oui, Madame, come this way, and it will be a long walk”.
(To be continued . . .)
Well, we did it. We celebrated Pamela’s birthday in style!! (Happy Birthday, Pamela!) It was a great night at Molly Malone’s, the place was packed, and we had a hell of a show! Their kitchen was closed, but someone sent out for pizzas. People danced the night away, and someone down front was blowing bubbles! You never know what to expect at a Catahoula show, other than a really, really good time! And check out our website at catahoulamusic.com
