Hi, it’s Alison – your regularly scheduled Nellie Newsletter will be coming soon, (complete with Sock Monkey!!), but I wanted to send you this special edition to let you know about a wonderful event I’m working on.
It’s called “The Indomitable Spirit”.
It’s an event….it’s a website…it’s a movement.
It’s about people who’ve overcome seemingly insurmountable odds, to not just “survive”, but go on to live truly happy, fulfilling lives.
If you’re going to be in the Los Angeles area the weekend of June 24, you can get tickets to the event. If you’re not, you can still sign up at the website and get updates on all the upcoming activities, read about our wonderful speakers – and get discounts on t-shirts and tote bags!!
That’s right…YOU can be an Indomitable Spirit!
If you’re a BonnetHead, then you already have the kind of spirit that made it possible for Laura and her family to survive the hardships of the 1800s. BonnetHeads don’t let the Nellie Olesons of life keep them down. Even when Baby Carrie fell down the hill…she got right back up again!
Our members all have their own unique stories – but they have one thing in common – no matter how bad it gets, they’ve figured out how to put one foot in front of the other and forge on!
We’re starting a movement that we hope will spread throughout the country. The only thing missing is… YOU!

Be a part of this entertaining and informative afternoon, meet new friends, participate in a panel discussion, enjoy refreshments and find out how YOU can become an Indomitable Spirit!
Rev. Steve Pieters is an AIDS survivor who was given mere months to live back in the 1980s. Steve is not only alive – he’s ALIVE!! Steve has served on the Boards of Directors of AIDS Project Los Angeles, the AIDS Interfaith Council of Southern California, the AIDS National Interfaith Network (USA), and the first Los Angeles City/County AIDS Task Force, and was Field Director for the AIDS Ministry of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches from 1987 to 1997. He has written a series of articles for Journey magazine about his experiences with AIDS, which have been collected with other writings of Rev. Pieters’ in the book, I’m Still Dancing.
Jody Vaclav, who works as a set designer for Wheel of Fortune, has her own incredible story to share. Along with being a stroke survivor and being told she’d never speak again – Jody made her transition from Joe to Jody 30 years ago. She has written and starred in her one-woman show, “Inside Out-A One Person Show in Two Persons,” and continues to be a beacon to others who are searching for their own identity and place in the world.
And of course you know me. I’ll be hosting and moderating the Q &A and as always, my book, “Confessions of a Prairie Bitch,” will be available for purchase, as well as Indomitable Spirit t-shirts, tote bags and our NEW Indomitable Spirit scented candle!
