October 2017 : Nellie Newsletter

Let’s see, where was I? Oh yes, Hurray! Alison is back from France! (And Sock Monkey, too!) She’ll be home for . .  well . . a little while anyway. She’s also back from her first visit to the Snake River Comic Con in Pocatello, Idaho. How was it, you ask? It was so good, I’m trying to figure out a way to go with her next year! There was the ghost tour at night, complete with a visit to the famous “Princess Theatre” and Steampunk during the day, (and mermaids, and burlesque dancers and Trekkies and Zombies oh my!) and Sock Monkey was a big hit. (Hello to all of our new readers from Idaho!)

By the way, I have news to share. Our little newsletter seems to be growing up. We have just now attained the level of 2,500 readers! It seems like only yesterday . .  well, never mind. We’re going to work harder to make this even more interesting and fun!

And on a more serious note, California is burning again. (Or is that ‘still’?) There are fires all up and down the state, with a large one down here in Orange County, and another large one in Napa. We just heard from friends up north that Charlotte Stewart and Michael are doing just fine. Their power was out, and no phone reception, so we all got a little worried. Stay safe, you two!

Update from last month: YES, FINALLY, THE AUDIO VERSION OF “CONFESSIONS OF A PRAIRIE BITCH” IS GETTING DONE!! Yes, at long last, the recording is complete. And there is a tentative release date for early in November. Now, before you ask, that is absolutely all I know at this point. I’m sure it will be available, but I don’t know where or how. As soon as I know, you’ll know. I promise!  WAIT! I Lied!! I do know something! The audio book of Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is now available for pre-order at: Tantor Media  And it says NOVEMBER 7!! (I told you, as soon as I know . . . )

Hey, how about a schedule??

First up, Alison and Tour Guide Extraordinaire Richard Sebastian present another episode of the Nasty Nellie Oleson Tour of Hollywood. This one will be this Sunday, October 15th.  The tours are $85.00, and run from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. The tour begins at the new Dearly Departed Tours and Artifact Museum at 5601 Santa Monica Blvd. (right across the street from the Hollywood Forever Cemetery) Check it out here: Dearly Departed Tours  For tickets go to: Nellie Tour Tickets  There is always a theme, and this time it is the coveted Halloween Edition of the tour. (Not to be missed, I hear!) But hurry! You may already be too late! As I am writing this, there are only two seats left! (No, stop reading the newsletter, open your browser, and go get ’em!)

Next up, Alison will be at the Chiller Theatre Toy, Model & Film Expo in Parsippany, New Jersey, from October 27th to the 29th. Last time she was there it was her and Charlotte. This time it will be Alison, Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder), and Rachel Greenbush (Baby Carrie). And Todd Bridges, who played “Solomon Henry” in the episode entitled “The Wisdom of Solomon”. Tickets vary in price depending on what you want, from $30 per day general admission to $40 per day for special pre-show early admission tickets. Advance sales are closed, and all other ticket options are either sold out or unavailable. Check it out here: Chiller Theatre Tickets  Warning: Hotel rooms have been sold out since August, so you’ll need to get creative on lodging. And Sock Monkey is particularly excited about this event, because he gets the chance to hang with another Monkee, Michael Nesmith! (Monkey and I are both going to this one!) I just checked their website. There are literally hundreds of celebrities showing up to this thing! This is going to be incredible!! And huge!

And next is, well . .  I’m not quite sure! Alison has gotten involved with an organization called SPERDVAC. (The Society to Preserve and Encourage Radio Drama, Variety and Comedy) There’s going to be a luncheon on November 11th. The Honorary Members Luncheon, to be exact. You can check out their website: SPERDVAC  I’m not sure if it’s open to the public, but you could always join! (Membership is like, $20 per year) The luncheon costs $30, and starts at noon in Long Beach, and is followed by re-creations of several old time radio broadcasts, including: “The Bickersons“, Phil Rapp’s wonderful creation, featuring the constantly bickering couple, John and Blanche Bickerson, (originally played by Don Ameche and Frances Langford). Could be a hoot!  I remember when I was a child listening to old time radio drama at night when my parents thought I was asleep. There was one show called ‘Johnny Dollar’ that I particularly liked. Good times!

After that there is a Special Event! On Saturday, November 18th, from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm, The Indomitable Spirit and Grand Oak Live have teamed up to bring you “Music, Libations and Conversation.

Have you already signed up to be a member of “The Indomitable Spirit“? If not, head over to their website today! Indomitable Spirit Then you’ll be FIRST  to hear about events like the upcoming “Music, Libations and Conversation.”  Of course Alison will be the main speaker, but also appearing is the brave, inspiring Erin Runnion, (founder of the “Joyful Child Foundation“).  And for your musical entertainment, the extraordinarily talented Marky Lennon, (YES, from the same family that brought you the Lennon Sisters!), accompanied by his brother Michael Lennon on guitar, and bass guitarist Mark Harris. (Marky Lennon)

All in all it promises to be a very thoughtful, thought-provoking and fun evening. Plus, your ticket includes a Thanksgiving style dinner and drinks. And a raffle! And a meet-and-greet! Quick sign up now!!
Music, Libations, Conversations

After that, we leave for Thanksgiving. (There’s some turkey somewhere who should be very afraid!)

Rumour Control

1.            Hey, Northern California! Had any Nellie lately? Could you handle it? And just what is a Russian River?? Could you handle December, maybe?

2.            Argentina? Wait what’s in Argentina?  I know they’re some of the biggest Little House fans next to the French . . but . . . hmm?

3.            Atlanta? Are we working our way through the alphabet?

Little House on The Prairie Website – With Thanksgiving approaching, you may want to consider some new recipes for the feast. Check this out: Little House Recipes There are recipes for cranberry sauce and stuffing inspired by LHOTP. (There’s even a recipe for the infamous Cinnamon Chicken!) Thank you, Friendly Family Productions.

Not Your Mothers Mercantile!” – Your One Source for all things Alison, and many things Prairie. The inventory will keep changing as we run across new items to post. (Nothing new this month) Remember, on the site it says orders will be filled within two weeks, and that is indeed our intention. And since many of you have asked, yes, all things on the site can be autographed and personalized by Alison! Alison does indeed sign every autograph herself, there are no pre-signed items sitting around, and no one is going to try to forge her signature. So, there may be a slight delay as we wait for her to get back to town. By the way, here’s the link: Mercantile

Prairie Tidbits

Rachel Greenbush (Carrie Ingalls) – Well, well, there are things a-happening with our Rachel! First off, Rachel will be Grand Marshall for the Chatsworth Kiwanis Club 2017 Holiday Parade on Sunday, December 10, 2017. (Chatsworth Kiwanis) This could be fun! To top that, Rachel has recently been cast in a feature film entitled “A Shortstop Away“, where she plays Mrs. Harper. The film is currently in pre-production, and Rachel will get to work with Valerie Harper! Way to go, Rachel!!

Pamela Roylance (Sarah Reed Carter) –  Another one who has been very, very busy, it seems! She just finished work on a film called “Friend Zone“, in which she plays the wacky mother, Bessie. This one is now in post-production, with a tentative release date of 2/12/18. Here’s their IMDB: Friend Zone  Her episode of Startup should be airing soon on the Crackle channel. It’s Episode No. 6. Check this one out: StartUp  Keep it up, Pam!!

Radames Pera (John Sanderson Edwards) – Recent ex-pat Radames has had a very busy week. (To say the least!) As you may recall, he and his bride, Anne-Sophie have taken their child and moved back to her native France. And, since they were married in a civil ceremony in San Diego, they decided to stage a real wedding in a 13th century church outside of Reims this past weekend. Alison visited while she was there a couple of weeks ago, and the photos of the wedding are just now beginning to surface. Congratulations again, you two!! (Hmmm, how can I throw rice all the way from here to France?)

Charlotte Stewart (Eva Beadle) – Charlotte is making another set of her fabulous Beadle Bags as a fundraiser for her cancer charity. And she has a bunch of new cast photos to make them with. You can see a sampling on her FaceBook page: Charlotte FaceBook Remember, a portion of the cost of each bag goes to her cancer charity. If you are interested, send her an e-mail at:

James Cromwell (Harve Miller) – Here’s another of the LHOTP alumni who has never, ever stopped working. He was Harve Miller in two episodes in 1980, and Lucy Lee Flippin’s character, Eliza Jane Wilder, was completely smitten with him! Anyway, you’ve seen him in everything, from Star Trek movies, to I, Robot, to the new Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom that is now in post production. Keep on keepin’ on, James!

The Saga of Sock Monkey    (Chapter Fifty-Eight)
Sock Monkey was tired. He had just been through a very difficult week! First, the crazy cab ride. Then the late night train ride. Finally they had arrived at their destination in Toulon. And Mme. Sophie was there to meet him! After a week of following her around and trying to speak French like a silly little monkey, he was in love! And the adventures! He remembered having lunch at the American restaurant on the harbor as Alison was being interviewed. The food was . . well . . American, and he was not impressed! But he was curious. “Alison, he asked, do all French waiters and waitresses carry guns?” Alison laughed and replied, “No silly, only when they are really American FBI agents posing as waiters to protect the American visitors!” Sock Monkey was very impressed! “We must be very important!”, he thought. And then the boat ride around the harbor. They had been riding along, very peacefully, when he noticed a ripple in the water moving along with the boat. It was keeping up, right beside them, and it was getting bigger! Sock Monkey was worried! What was it? A whale? Some kind of French shark? Did it eat monkeys? And then…it was a SUBMARINE!  A real honest to goodness, French submarine had surfaced and was riding along beside them! And the crew all came out on deck to take pictures. What a sight! Sock Monkey sighed, and sipped his cognac as he let Air France carry them back home. “I wonder what will happen next?”, he thought.
(To be continued . . .)
